Chapter 4

<Bad Ending Maker Episode 4>

The charred black Dean finally collapsed.

Unlike the beginner village chief, his HP was considerably high. The death notification only appeared after nearly ten minutes of burning.

Infamy +0.

“Hmm, typical of a lawless city. Killing NPCs doesn’t drop anything.”

Beside the unfazed Minchul, Oasis tore at her hair.

“But it gives a hidden class! Isn’t that why we came here? Why did you kill him again, you NPC slaughterer!”

“Hold on. Your master isn’t some NPC-killing maniac. There’s always a reason.”

Oasis didn’t need to ask further. A dark magic portal had already opened behind Dean’s corpse.

Clank. Clank.

A black knight in pitch-black armor emerged from the portal. He gazed at Dean’s corpse and chuckled in satisfaction.

“Heh. To think you’d kill Dean. Quite the ruthless one, aren’t you?”

The knight alternated his gaze between Minchul and Oasis, nodding.

“I’ve long awaited someone as thoroughly wicked as you…!”

“Um, I’m innocent! I didn’t do anything…!”

Oasis sniffled, but no one acknowledged her.

“I am Terio, captain of the Dark Knights. Follow me. Your evil shall be rewarded accordingly.”

A system message flashed before them:

Class Change Quest [Demon King’s Succession] Activated!

You, who are so vile even the Dark God shudders… The Dark God Cult has awaited a true villain like you!

Terio, a high-ranking Dark Knight, seeks to make you the Dark God’s avatar.

– Quest Reward: Hidden Class [Dark Knight]

“This ‘Dark Knight’ is exactly what I wanted.”

Minchul shrugged.

“Many players reach the Dark Mage class quest. But they all stop there. One more step into darkness, and this could’ve been theirs…”

“No normal person goes that far!”

Oasis shrieked.

“You have to grind infamy as a beginner to get banished here, find the Dark Mage quest NPC, then kill them mid-quest? Those are the conditions?!”

“Yep.”

“Who could possibly fulfill that? No one!”

“Ever played the Dark Souls series? Plenty of psychos kill every NPC!”

“You relic! That game’s ancient! The requirements are still too absurd!”

Minchul accepted the quest with a wry smile.

“True. This class was designed to be brutally hard to obtain.”

“Huh?”

“The creator wanted only players rotten to the core to claim it.”

Hence the quest name [Demon King’s Succession].

The Dark Knight possessed unparalleled power among hidden classes, balanced by severe drawbacks. As its designer, Minchul had intended it for players fully committed to villainy.

“Oh well. Since I’m here… Might as well embrace the role.”

“You’re already a perfect fit…”

Oasis wiped cold sweat as Minchul smirked. She’d thought him a mundane office worker—never imagined this unhinged gamer side.

“Let’s go, Oasis. Time to class up and dive into the real game.”

Terio entered the dark portal first, Minchul slipping in after.

“…….”

Reluctantly, Oasis scurried in behind them.

The portal led to a massive underground temple.

Terio marched down a corridor lined with grotesque statues, Minchul following calmly.

KABOOM!

Lightning flashed through rain-lashed windows. Oasis clung to Minchul, trembling.

“Eeek… Why’s it so creepy…?”

“Expecting butterflies in a dark god’s temple?”

Terio halted in a grand hall.

“Welcome, sinners.”

He spread his arms theatrically.

“Before granting you the Dark Knight title, I have questions.”

Despite the class’s vile requirements, the quest itself was simple—just agree to everything.

Minchul shook his head at Oasis.

“Don’t agree. You need a different class.”

“What?! Selfish! Hogging the good class?!”

“A two-person party needs balance. I’ll find you something cooler.”

“Ugh…”

Terio adopted a dramatic tone.

“The sole ruler of this world is Crow, the Dark Star. Do you agree?”

“N-no…”

Oasis’s whisper drew Terio’s wrath.

“You dare deny Lord Crow? Begone, unworthy one!”

“Eep!”

Her quest vanished. Slumping in a corner, she pouted as Terio turned to Minchul.

“Do you agree?”

“Undoubtedly. Only Crow is worthy to rule.”

“Splendid!”

Ding! A heart icon appeared behind Terio.

Affection with Terio +5!

Minchul couldn’t care less about male NPC affection, but it didn’t hurt.

“Will you devote yourself to the Dark God Cult?”

“Absolutely.”

“Will you lead the purge against light’s followers?”

“With pleasure.”

Minchul affirmed every question. Terio nodded, satisfied.

“State your name, villain.”

“Lavo.”

Terio approved the ID.

“Final question: Do you pledge body and soul to Dark God Crow?”

A system prompt appeared:

Agree to change class to [Dark Knight]?

Minchul nodded instantly.

“Gladly.”

Fanfare erupted as notifications flooded his vision:

Class Changed to [Dark Knight]!

– Dark God Cult Friendship Level: 1

– MP removed. All skills now consume HP.

– Dark Knight-exclusive skills unlocked (scales with level).

– New stat [Demon King] unlocked (Lv.1).

Demon King Level increases with infamy, enhancing skills. Spread your notoriety!

※ Caution: Infamy resets if arrested.

Minchul reviewed his stats. The class thrived on evil deeds—greater infamy meant greater power, but also relentless bounty hunters. Getting caught would strip all bonuses, leaving him weaker than a beginner.

‘I’ll take it to the limit.’

While others might settle for moderate infamy, Minchul—the class’s creator—planned to escalate endlessly.

Terio offered a spiked greatsword.

“A token for our new member.”

Dark Knight’s Thorn Sword

– Grade: Normal

– Item Lv.10

– No level restriction

– Durability: 15/15

– Damage: 30-40

– [Demon King] Bonus: +5 Damage

Standard-issue blade for Dark Knights. Painfully prickly.

Minchul equipped the lackluster but free weapon.

“Now go! Spread our cult’s glory!”

A portal to the underworld opened. Instead of entering, Minchul drew his sword and produced a torch.

“……Master?”

Oasis paled.

“NPCs retaliate when attacked—except against beginners or allies. But Terio’s our cult buddy now. Friendship Level 1~”

“……!”

“Terio, for the cult’s brighter future… you’ll have to die.”

Minchul licked his blade, every inch the villain.

WHOOSH!

The torch ignited Terio’s armor as the sword clanged against his helmet.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

“…….”

Oasis covered her eyes, unable to watch.
